About us

Situated just a few minutes stroll from the Sea-Front and the Sandy Weston-Super-Mare beach, our home is hidden away in the beautiful and quiet Clarence Park.
Surrounded by trees and nature, you can not help but want to visit Our Surroundings.

Then there are the 3 Outdoor Greens and Petanque, not to mention the fully licensed Clubhouse which includes facilities that help extend our hospitality .

Our members are renowned as a friendly and welcoming group. As a Club, we ensure all our members are provided with the best of everything from our sport.

Throughout the year, we have something for everyone –

Outdoors where play on Our Greens whether it be Social Bowling or being involved in league / cup matches and in-house competitions, we compete against both local and teams from around the Area.

Being based in Weston-Super-Mare, we’re often visited by Day Trip or Touring Sides who we welcome to our Club and with many Repeat Visitors we know they Love Weston too.

We also have Indoor Bowls and Short Mat for that other time of the Year when those Autumn and Winter Days/ Evenings draw in.

Also a range of All Year round Social Activities.

Clarence Bowls Learn & Play

Clarence Bowling Club was founded in 1907, followed in 1926 by Clarence Ladies’ Bowling Club. In 1965, Wessex Ladies’ Bowling Club was formed, sharing our facilities. In 2002, following a generous legacy from former club-member Les Andrews – and a great deal of hard work by our members – the Les Andrews pavilion was opened by David Bryant MBE and this provides us with one of the best clubhouse facilities in the country.

Other than our main sport of Lawn Bowls, we also offer Petanque (French Boules) year-round, Indoor bowls on our indoor rink and, in the winter, short-mat bowling where we field two teams in local leagues. Add to this a comprehensive programme of social events, a full-sized snooker table, along with darts, card and board games – or just a convivial atmosphere to enjoy company in the bar, there’s something for everyone here at Clarence.

There are several classes of membership to suit everyone. Please visit the ‘Membership & Competitions’ section for more details.

Located just a few minutes’ walk from the seafront and within a short distance of the town’s centre, shopping areas and tourist attractions, Clarence Bowling Club is an ideal venue for fixtures against touring sides and day-visitors. There are numerous hotels for those staying for more than a day – from family-run concerns to national ‘chain’ hotels.  If your club is looking to arrange a tour in the Somerset area, you’d be well advised to contact our Match Secretary who is well-placed to offer suggestions on accommodation and other clubs in the area who you may like to consider games against.  Please do be aware, however, that our suggestions are just that – and neither Clarence BC nor its officers can be held responsible, in any way, for the quality of accommodation, food or other  bowling venues suggested.  Touring sides’ organisers are strongly advised to visit hotels or restaurants prior to making firm bookings.
